The Secret is mostly a bunch of hooey. Some of its elements make sense , like keeping yourself aware of opportunities and focusing your thoughts on things that matter to you. But the "universe" doesn't care about you or anyone and will not reward you for merely thinking good thoughts. You know the phrase "God helps those who help themselves?" That's a good start. Without your own action, all the thought in the world won't lead to changes.
Hmm. I just know people were saying good things about that movie last night in my class. It is just a movie, after all, so I've got no qualms about viewing it.
I understand what you're saying, though, and I hope you got from my post that I wasn't merely talking about thinking positive things, but also acting positive. Obviously I'm not always thinking positively about my relationship with Phillip, but if I at least outwardly act positive about it towards Phillip, things will probably go more smoothly, and this will have a chain reaction that affects my inner thoughts and fears, as well - the longer things last and the more things stay positive between him and I, the more those fears I have will be quelled. :)
Thoughts and actions are interactive, and if we at least make the effort to be positive in one of the two, then the other will follow, and good results will likely occur.

Of course, because will is simply rational appetite, or appetitive intellection. The will and the intellect act on each other inextricably.
I work at Blockbuster, and several people have asked if we carry that. We don't, but recently someone accidentally left their own personal copy in one of the drop boxes. I read the back and the insert, and I would not be surprised if it really turned out to be a load of hooey.

That same idea could be found decades ago in S. Gawain's Creative Visualization, not to mention a number of other "New Age spiritual classics," if you will.

A load of hooey itself; God helps those who cannot help themselves.

No, but without thought, there is no action (even if the thought and the action occur cotemporally).
I don't know anything about "The Secret" but I thought this was a really good post. You are right in thinking that calling Phillip everyday would be stifling. And it's so important you understand that and that taking care of yourself is Uber-important. You know what guys think is SO sexy and attractive? A woman who is self confident! Like this! hehe ---> And I know that whatever happens in my life, whether I finish college or whether I join the Peace Corps or whether I get married and have kids, I could live the rest of my life single and still have a happy and fulfilled life. Whatever God leads me to do, I'll do it. :)
Thanks for this post. I've been in a "today is not going to be so great" kind of self fulfilling funk. I'll try the "good day today" thing out. -smile-
:) Thanks! I also wanted to get the point across that although actions begin with thoughts, sometimes it has to work the other way around, too - I don't always think of things positively, but if I act outwardly positive, it can change my inner attitude as I see that things really aren't so bad. :) A lot of the time I have to make myself be outwardly positive even though on the inside I'm stressed... and it really does work to calm me down, and make the situation overall better!

All of our actions begin with thoughts. People who think negatively do color their world with negativity. And who wants to be around that?!
People who are positive are fun to be around, and things do seem to fall into place for them.
You are becoming very wise!
