"So, let me guess. Your talent show will be some gymnastics routine?" Sarah asked. "Set to some boring song from two hundred years ago? You do know that sometimes people use good music in their performances. Even at the Olympics! Good music is possible to flip to! I know, I watched them on TV!"

"Actually, no," Kathy said, blushing. "Umm, I'm going to be singing. A song. I guess. And--hey! The songs I used to perform to weren't that boring! I didn't even pick them! My coach did!"

"Wait." Sarah was grinning now. "You. Are going to be singing. On stage. In front of, like, hundreds of people? That's hilarious! I was just talking about the time you got a B- because you were too scared to sing in front of your class!"

"Who were you even telling that to?" Kathy asked, bewildered. "When were you talking to them? You've been with me the whole day! No one's talked to you!"

After the encounter in the park, Flick's original plans for the night were gone so he was making new plans. But, those were for later.

Now, he was gonna make his way back to his room and see what was going on there. His new plans had finally coalesced when he stepped into his room.

"Oh. Hey," he greeted when he realized Kathy was in there with a guest. "Sorry to interrupt anything."

"Hiiiii," Sarah said, giving Flick her prettiest smile. "You're not interrupting anything. Just a bit of sisterly girl time, but we can have that whenever."

You know, what with Kathy living on the opposite coast. Also, Sarah, you were thirteen. Just stop.

"You must be Flick, right? You're just as cute as Kathy said you were!" She batted her eyes, ignoring her sister's groan and facepalm. "I'm Sarah. So nice to meet you."

"Kathy's obnoxious, much-younger sister," Kathy interrupted. "Hey Flick. Come on in. We're just trying to figure out what I should wear tonight for the Talent Show."

Also, she was so sorry for her sister. So, so sorry.

"She said that? Well, she's cute too," Flick said, glancing Kathy's way. "Hi, Sarah. Good to meet you. Welcome to room 508."

See, this family meeting had already gone better than the one he'd just had. Thank goodness.

"What talent are you gonna be showing off?" he wondered. "Probably makes a difference in what you're gonna wear, right?"
