AU: In which Ichigo is a female cheerleader, Renji is a badass fullback, and it actually makes sense, apart from Renji being straight. Also,

Summary: Renji had really hoped his senior year would have gone better.
Renji Abarai had priorities. Really, there was a list on a burger wrapper, somewhere in his backpack. His priorities were no more than three simple things he wanted to accomplish during his senior year:
1) Winning the playoffs.
2) Not getting injured before graduating.
3) Graduating.
Renji had created the list just before school started again, and he was pretty determined not to let things that weren't on it get his attention. He just did everything he could to accomplish his three goals, and other things were ignored. It worked for him.
Or rather, it had worked for him, before he had to face his biggest challenge yet: Ichigo Kurosaki.
He'd been blissfully unaware of that girl's existence for three whole years, so of course that during his senior year, and right before championship games, they'd get acquainted.
It was traditional for the cheerleaders to take care of the football players before important games, in ways such as doing their homework, giving them cookies, and a good luck fuck, in some cases (not Renji's, of course, because that was his life). Renji had always gotten Rukia and he'd been down with that.
It had had to stop, of course, because that was his life. He'd become the starting fullback, and Rukia hadn't been allowed to be "his" cheerleader anymore for some cheerleader-political reason Renji still didn't understand, and suddenly he'd started getting daily visits from a frowning redheaded girl who shoved cookies into his lap and patted him on the back.
It was only then that Renji realized how much more he should have appreciated Rukia. She'd done more than pat him on the back before the conference championship game, for one.
The guys gave him shit for it, as if it was his fault that he got the least pleasant cheerleader on the planet. Why the fuck was she even a cheerleader? She wasn't cheerful or encouraging or capable of smiling. Nice tits, he guessed, but the scathing looks she kept giving him deterred him from even glancing at them.
Renji wasn't that desperate, even if he wasn't very popular with girls. Again, he ignored most of the things around him, and his tattoos apparently made him a certain "type" that appealed to a certain "type" that was sadly scarce in Seireitei High. Ever since Rukia had stopped hanging out with him, Ichigo had become the only girl Renji had been in daily contact with. It was really starting to mess with his head.
They talked all the time-well, they argued a lot (Renji was used to bickering with girls after Rukia, but Ichigo seemed surprised the first time that Renji talked back to her. Not that it discouraged her in any way), mostly about stupid shit he didn't really care about. Except for when it came to his sunglasses. Ichigo deserved what she got when she started badmouthing his sunglasses. Actually, that was one of the few times she'd actually sensed that Renji took the subject seriously, and let it go. She did more than that: the next day he found a neat sunglasses case in his locker. (Her cookies were still awful.)
There was also an incident-a fight-in which she did something other than annoyed him. It started when she came up to him after their practices to talk about something, and he told her point-blank that he wasn't in the mood. She called him an idiot, and he called her an idiot right back and said that he had to get ready for the game. She helpfully informed him that he'd just finished practice (as if he didn't already know that), and "what the hell else can you do to get ready?"
After that he just yelled at her that she didn't take the games seriously enough. Then, something amazing happened. She yelled back that of course the game was serious, and told him just how important it was to their ranking and some other actually insightful things about football that he hadn't realized she even knew. To top it all off, she kind of vaguely implied that he was a good fullback.
Renji was so stunned he started listening instead of the usual combination of frowning at her and peeking at her tits.
That was when the real head-messing started. He began... wanting to listen to her. He stopped brushing her off most of the time. He stopped telling her how awful her cookies were, or how he hoped Rukia would come back some day to free him.
He didn't like her, but he stopped resisting her as much as he had. Once that happened, he realized that she was... well, she was kind of okay. Still argumentative and annoying and constantly frowning, but Renji was beginning to realize that a) that was his "type", and b) he was fucked for the rest of high school because he wanted her and her tits to stay around him. And mostly her.
Renji had some prioritizing to do.
