I feel ignorant but I couldn't make head nor tail from the,,, bottle caps? hot pads? Other than they look pretty. What are they for? Is it one piece or is that an array that belongs together?

It's stitched together and you place it on a table or surface before setting down a hot pan or pot. It protects the surface from being damaged. You probably have a different name for it over there.

Oh that explains it! I was thinking, "so do you heat it up and put it on sore muscles? Don't the bottle caps burn?"

The caps are metal and the pots aren’t so hot that the cloth melts.
