Poor Barre

Jul 12, 2023 07:52

I was born there and had heard about major flooding before, but nothing like what it had to deal with this week. My heart goes out to the folks there. Even Dente's, where I spent many happy hours reading comic books has been saturated with mud. It's mind boggling to see and I am so, so happy my Mom isn't there anymore. She was caught in a huge ( Read more... )

We had the rain here in Maine that raged through Vermont. Thankfully for us, we didn't have it as severe, although it was a ton of torrential rain - one of those "rain trains." We have seen pictures from Vermont, and it was so much worse. I suspect it changed the landscape permanently. Thank you, climate change.

However, we checked the dirt road to our cabins to ensure it hadn't eroded so much that it trapped us here. (It didn't). Also, the new drainage we created around the North Cabin worked well. It has been quite wet here all summer, and we're grateful for the sun yesterday and today. By Friday - more rain.

We did. Basically, the rain dissipated some after it hit Vermont before it hit Maine I'm shocked to say that because we had 24 hours of torrential rain - but obviously it was a lot less than what Vermont had. I can see how Vermont flooded.

More than 20 years ago Vermont suffered flooding that changed the landscape. Looks like it happened again!

We got heavy rains here with the threat of floods but nothing major, thank goodness.

It still wasn't as bad as the flooding in Northfield when my mom was a child. Then there was very high waters back when I was about 6, so 1964 or thereabouts. It was what sent us up into the mountains to live. Mom was so terrified of being trapped again.

My mom and dad told stories about tremendous flooding in 1955. Scary stuff!

I'm delighted to have never lived through one. That's fine with me.

If it's not hot weather and fires, or extreme cold and ice, it's flooding. And not just in the USA :(

My thoughts are with those affected.

Poor Barre indeed. What a mess to have to deal with. My heart goes out to the residents of Barre and other communities hard hit.

Same here. The community is so poor to begin with.
