When did we become Big Brother?

A bit of background - we do a lot with silent auctions, usually donating some VIP passes (good for one show in the season) and a 60th album. I also send along a brochure that explains the upcoming shows. This includes warnings and the rating.

behind a cut because it's long )

"What if this is the first show they've seen at SCT and they are driven away by its vile display of a two-minute song called, You Can be as Loud as you Want (when you're Making Love).

What if, on account of BEING old, they happen to KNOW more about sex than this yobbo dreams of? Just saying.

Pretty much, as my AD would say. He's purposefully done everything he could to bring this show down. He says that all the issues we have been having with this show is God's will... oh, just... please... no.

God's will?? And which God would that be, I'm wondering? /sarcasm. Perhaps you might remind him that Jesus was known to have willingly broken bread with sex-workers, so why would he have a problem with sex?

Would-be "Christians" give me a headache....

I so hear you on this. And I gotta say, I think God like theatre because ticket sales have really picked up the last couple of days. We will succeed and Pat can go pound cheese.

But this is PUPPET sex!

He sounds like a real asshole. I hope the show is a big success despite all his efforts at sabotage.

Thanks (twice). I am hoping beyond hope that the show does very well, just to spite him.

I don't know this show to know if I would enjoy seeing it or not, but how old are these "old folks" who need protection? They wouldn't happen to be the baby boomers who think they invented "sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll" would they?

Yup, that would be about the age. Still, it's not up to us to tell people what they can or can't see. We tell them all about it, post the warnings and the rest is up to them.

I've just been looking to see what's on at our local theatre, and would you believe it we get Avenue Q in July.

The warning on the booking form is Due to the strong language and themes of an adult nature, this show is deemed unsuitable for those under the age of 16.

Yup and that's what our literature says. Are you going to go see it? It really is a lot of fun.

My eyes are rolling around in my head so fast, I'm getting nauseous. Or maybe I'm just sick of micromanagers.

It's not even the micromanaging in this case. It's outright censorship. He doesn't approve of the show and he feels the need to protect others from it...

Too bad he's not offended enough by the show to leave and "do God's work" (in deciding what is morally appropriate for us old fogeys) somewhere else where he might be appreciated. (Westboro Baptist Church comes to mind.)

Sadly, we cannot get him to leave, although he did say if we did this show he was going to quit. We said bye and he stayed (he's also threaten to quit three other times since then. Whenever he doesn't get his way, he threatens to leave. None of us pay any attention to him anymore.
