Sigh. Yeah. I think you're approaching this sensibly. 6 months is a prudent time to wait for another test. Being the worrier that I am, I'd tend to go for the colonoscopy but that's me and my worries.
Glad the inspection is just pure routine since you've been there so long!
The fact that she has been trying to shove one down my throat since I started seeing her in August doesn't fill me with confidence. My other doc said there was no reason given my history. I was with her for four years and am inclined to listen to her. This new doc was the one who wanted me to have a brain scan because my knee pain might be from a brain tumor. She's fast to order tests, this one.
I don't want to worry you, but personally, if the poop test came back positive, I'd do the colonoscopy asap. As long as it's just a polyp, they'll remove that right with the colonoscopy and no extra bother. Once it has turned (which they *can* do but don't *have* to do) you're suddenly in deep sh*t, pun intended.
I'm over-cautious on that one because I'm seeing MIL go down that road right now, while J gets a C done every two years and will in all likelihood avoid the same fate.
Glad your inspection went well. Do they do that to you every year? Woah, what a hassle.
While I know there are false positives with those tests, consider my mom.. she had colonoscopies every 3 years because she had polyps. Never had anything close to a real tumor, or even a polyp that w as suspicious. Just before she was due for her scheduled test, they diagnosed a stage 4 aggressive tumor that had already spread to her liver. No symptoms until she suddenly had back pain Thanksgiving night. She thought it was her gall bladder. All I am saying is colon cancer is on the uptake, and there are not always symptoms... I don't want to lose you, and no one should go through what my mom went through... I will get off my soapbox now... hugs!
I'm with you on the soapbox, or at least one foot is on that and the other's on spikesgirl58's box. :-)
There's nothing wrong with having a second test/opinion when you have no symptoms or the test is of questionable validity (which some of them are). But if the second test is positive, you should act accordingly to save your own life.
I say this knowing that if the test I took had come back positive, I'd've been hesitant too! I was glad it came back negative, but I'm aware that either way, the test could be wrong.
My understanding is that, like a lot of tests, there's a fair risk of false positives with the fecal occult test (or is it occult fecal???). Second opinions are always valuable.

and there is zero history in my family,
That's reassuring. Do you really have to wait six months for a second test?
