My heart, she is broken...

Yesterday we saw what was probably the worst performance of Mamma Mia that I have ever witnessed. I've seen the show seven times, not counting the many times I watched our production of it. I have seen it professionally done, as in New York and London. I have seen it in Sacramento, both as a local production and as a touring show.

I just don't get it. Let the script and the music do the work. I get angry when directors/actors think they can improve a script.

I continue to see that with opera. It is respectless, and stupid.

Exactly. The script is written a certain way for a good reason. I have no respect for directors who think they can do better.

Ohh yeah...I feel like it's just jinxing it to promise "the best performance ever"... Ya gotta let the art speak for itself.

Exactly. It's like saying good luck in a theatre, you just don't!

According to the program, she's been doing this for years. No wonder her previous attempts have failed...

Ok...that just sounds wrong in so many ways. What did they eliminate to shorten it so much? I mean seriously. Isn't that script still under copyright? They can't mess with it that way!
I have seen Mamma Mia on the London Stage 3 times (or is it 4?) and in several smaller theatres. The production you describe here sounds so lacking!

Yes, it is a copyright violation. when you purchase the rights, there are certainly rules you must follow. If MTI found out, they would shut it down. They cut lyrics, they trimmed scenes and altered dialogue. It was heartbreaking.
