Instant Messenger Thingies.

What's the deal with the various IMs?

I've got MSN Messenger which I use with a hotmail addy.

I thought AIM covered everything, so I'd be able to add anyone with AIM and they could add me (with a hotmail add) but some people don't seem able to.

What am I missing?

msn messenger, aim, instant messenger

I don't know anything about AIM but, if you're looking for something cross-platform you might try Trillion.

So that would let me add people who have an addy from yapoo, msn, aol etc?

I downloaded AIM yesterday and unless I cocked it up - as is my way - it wouldn't let me add a yapoo addy.

Perhaps I was getting AIM and Trillion mixed up.

Do use Trillion (or know anyone who does)then?

Yes, it lets you add MSN, AOL, Yahoo and use IRC.

And, yes, I have used it in the past.

I have no idea I'm afraid, but did you see that BBC Four are having a volcano night on Monday? :D
