very beginning, unresearched thoughts on suicide prevention

I've been getting some questions about my rather terse previous post.

1. I am okay.  (Actually, I'm more than okay; it's apparently very healthy for folks of my personality type to get super-passionate about some Causes.)

2. So, I was watching things on youtube at 3am, and following the links on the side.

that's a joke. Interesting thought process though - therapy through helping others, has merits in theory at least.

I've never heard of writing suicide notes in therapy, but there's an exercise in drama therapy where a suicidal client acts out his/her own funeral with the therapist's help-- everything they imagine about what people would say, what it would be like, etc.

I've never done it, but it's an interesting exercise because they generally come to all kinds of interesting conclusions, things like: a) People will say awesome things about them, but they won't be there to appreciate them b) People won't say awesome things, and then they can pick apart the non-awesome things with the therapist and realize some of the stuff you talk about in your post c) People will be really sad and that feels awful d) People won't be really sad and they need to live in order to show them. Stuff like that. If I'd ever worked with anyone suicidal, I'd totally do it.

Yeah, the best response I ever read to a troll in this situation (other than "fuck off") was "Hi, troll, whoever said 'suck it up etc.' to you was wrong."

It's hard not to feed the trolls.
