Taking Measures (Rudolf, Taaffe)

So, I'm trying to stop sucking at actually posting my finished stories. This one was written a few months back and seek_shangrila betaed it also a long time ago, but somehow I haven't gotten finished with the corrections and changes. Here it's now. Short fic of Rudolf and Taaffe, gen as far as I know (thank goodness). I'll try to get around to posting certain ( Read more... )

That was...excellent and elegantly written...One of the best things I have read in a long time. I adore your characterization of Taaffe, and how human he seems, very refreshing after too much Wildhorn!Vienna!Taaffe. And your Rudolf comes to life so beautifully and sadly. I've become absolutely fascinated with him in the past few months and read every book I could get my hands on. This could have easily been a moment from any one of them.

"...someone whose love for him would be measured in her willingness to let him die." What a lovely, morbid phrase. Perfect!

Thank you for writing it.

Aww, thank you so much for your comment! It made me really happy that you liked it and took the time to say it so nicely. :)

Maybe this will help spurring me to finish some of the several unfinished fics I've got lying around...

Hey, I like this! Now I'm interested in HumanBeing!Taaffe, rather than just the Bwuahaha-ing Disney-Villain version. I'll have to watch the Hungarian version first so that I can comment more intelligently, but yeah, from this story plus the few clips I've watched of Zsolt's Taaffe I'm intrigued.

Yeah, the Hungarian Zsolt!Taaffe feels like an actual interesting human being, which is why Uwe's version didn't much impress me (though I liked that better than him actually trying to be impressive, because that'd have failed). Anyway, thanks, I'm glad you like!

I feel the same way as you - I don't quite feel the musical captures much of the real historical feeling, especially with Rudolf who shares some characteristics with the historical character but mostly is just... not him. I basically wanted to take my Rudolf, influenced heavily by my historical readings and somewhat by the Elisabeth musical, and set him into a conversation with Taaffe from the musical as I view Homonnay Zsolt's portrayal. I don't know enough about the historical Taaffe to say much about him, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had attitudes rather like this. So it's really much more a historical fic than a musical-based one. Anyway, I'm very flattered that you also feel it captures the feeling of the historical documents rather than just the musical, and thank you for commenting ( ... )
