In Silence (Elisabeth)

Another Yuletide story. This was a Yuletide treat, a little less than 1000 words, written for fyrie in her request for Franz-Joseph fic from Elisabeth. I know I'm late, but I just want you to know I love this little story. In the musical Frans ia always pushed into the back and I actually started to hate him. This shows such a human side of him. I just love it.

Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it so much. I mostly don't pay an awful lot of attention to him either, but from history, I can't help feeling pity for him (even as most of my own attention is fixed on Sisi and Rudolf). I wrote this to a friend's request in Yuletide, and writing about him made me feel more sympathy and interest for him, too. He really had to go through some awfully rough times and bore it with surprising grace. Of course he played his own part in the unhappiness of his wife and son, but he's only human and he never meant it, he only didn't understand them.

There are very few actors who can play FJ in a way that makes him feel sympathetic to me. I think one problem is that he's not very appealingly written in the musical, and often not that well directed either.
