I'd never properly noticed before that Rent begins at just this time of year. It's finally cold enough to go walking and feel the tension between your blood supply and the air, to need to keep moving to stay warm. I can imagine what Scotland and the Lakes must be like - practically deserted, semi-covered in snow, brittle and bright. Why yes, I am ( Read more... )

I grew in So. Shields which was near enough to the border that you could hop in a car and drive and hit the wilds of Scotland without really noticing what you were doing.

I just have to remind myself that we do have Cumnor and Shotover.

I'm up for mountains!

(But that is because I want to go woosh woosh swoosh down them. Ski resorts near to Stockholm not open yet hmpf)

However if I was in England and wasn't feeling overworked I might also be up for a trip. Shall we see if we find a weekend in Jan / Feb?

Oooh, yes, that'd be fantastic, assuming I have money (big assumption there)

I don't really know the best times for skiing in the UK - I think it's a case of waiting until the conditions are right, then dashing up and hoping the snow hasn't melted yet...

Oh I wasn't really meaning skiing in the UK, I'm more likely to get to do that here. Just some trip to get some fresh air and mountain time. Assuming that there's still clear crispness going on in Jan, not just nasty windy dampness.

Ohhh... I want mountains. I love this weather. I've been running outside just to feel cold and crisp.

I always miss Dovedale when it gets to this time of year and especially when its raining cats and dogs. Welsh hills aren't as fun as the Peak District or the Staffordshire moorlands *nods*
