aeirol AND I ARE GOING TO SPAIN IN ABOUT TEN DAYS!!

Okay, yeah. We've just spent about 10 hours messing around with Delta, trying to figure out why the internet kept quoting prices around $800 then trying to charge us $1,400+ when we went to purchase the ticket. Then the voucher I had wouldn't work. We had to call in four times and thus were put on ( Read more... )

going: traveling around the world, feelin' like: god it's been a lovely day, going: on an airplane

S-see, the thing with me writing posts about my trips is that it never happens. I intended to do it for China and by the time I actually thought to do it it was two years too late. I planned to do it for Italy, and I only really ever ended up posting pictures. I planned to do it for England, but ... yeah. It's a really terrible pattern. I think the problem is I always have these really (to my mind) interesting cultural insights to make, and I really want to capture all the of the sweeping beauty of the places I go, and I never seem to manage that with words. But I will try!

And thanks for the well-wishes!

OMG SPAIN! I thoroughly approve of this choice. My dream (well, one of my dreams) is to get one of the Fulbright scholarships where you essentially get paid to go be the resident English-speaker at a school in a foreign country for nine months, and if that ever actually happens I am picking Spain without a second thought.

I'm glad aeirol's going with you. ♥

Also, not to demand that you spend your vacation doing what other people want you to do, but if you take pictures of some of the buildings I will love you forever, because everything I have ever seen of Spain basically suggests that the entire nation is border-to-border architectural porn.

(P.S.: "We've just spent about 10 hours messing around with Delta, trying to figure out why the internet kept quoting prices around $800 then trying to charge us $1,400+ when we went to purchase the ticket." Welcome to my world.)

RE: the pictures, the main reason we picked the cities we did (excepting Madrid, which is where our flights are) is that the architecture in pictures was gor-ge-ous. Trust me, there will be plenty of pictures!

(What airline do you usually fly, and have you had the same problems with Delta specifically? 'Cause after this mess, I am never flying Delta again.)

I usually fly American Airlines, and sometimes Delta because they tend to have more options that don't involve going through Chicago. The price-bumping aggravation during ticket-buying isn't so much a Delta-specific thing (at least not in my experience) as it is something that happens when my father and I try to book seats together right after one another -- I suspect that the airline computers are programmed to spot and exploit perceived desire to sit together by raising the price for the second person.

Ugh, I hate airlines...At this point, I'm considering just compiling lists of which airlines are more crap than others and then publishing them with stories, so I can have a way to remember what to avoid.
