I am a bad friend. I watched episode 6 of Robin Hood without you today.

Kelli? Kelli? It will tear your heart. Between Much and Robin and Gisborne oh my god the series is so anachronistic and generally silly but the characters oh damn you Robin Hood for having such wonderful characters. Seriously. There's so much Guy/Marian and you can see ( Read more... )

so clever it hurts, +fandom, fandom: storm hawks, fandom: robin hood

PS Anyone who doesn't watch Robin Hood should. Rly.

Unusually, I have the complete and total opposite opinion to you on this one.

Robin Hood should be the coolest guy in the world. He should also be a hero, of the type who does extraordinary things, rather than some 'I can shoot arrows at 100% accuracy at the rate of an automatic firearm' person who does impossible things. And he looks too weedy to be Robin Hood.

I love the legend, I love some of the old films about him - which are actually vaguely plausible and good to watch. I hate the terrible BBC series, and the modern film with Kevin Costner, which is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

W-what? We disagree?

But seriously, this is tangential and not specifically related to Robin Hood: The definition of "hero" is always interesting, wouldn't you say? I almost consistently dislike the character that is meant to be heroic, because I also feel they fit some standard of "perfection." I have trouble liking characters because of their good points - I tend to like them because of their flaws.

[Specifically, I do happen to like this version Robin because of his character flaws rather than any heroic traits]

If I would let myself watch soap operas, I would say that I'd probably enjoy those too -- for the characters!

Anyway, prior to this my experience with Robin Hood had amounted to the animated version where Robin is a fox and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Neither of them are exactly indicative of the true, blue legend, so that may be a part of it as well.

I totally understand where you're coming from, though. Your choice, and trust me, I know my choice in television programs is questionable. At best.
