Yeah, I'm not sure how the movie changes would hold up as compared to the comic/cartoon, but either way, come may, I'm still willing to give it a chance.

I'm still a bit uncertain how the symbiote comes to Earth and then onto Peter. Originally Peter's Spidey costume was damaged during the Secret Wars series and he thought the symbiote was from a machine to fix clothing. The animated series of the 90's maintained that John Jameson discovered the symbiote accidentally while extracting an ore sample, it busted free after the space shuttle crashed in downtown Manhattan. These are the only two origins for it that I'm aware of.I read a review of the novelization, and between that and the scenes we have been shown in the trailers and promo shots, there is a meteor shower that occurs while MJ and Peter are being romantic in that giant web. One of the "meteors" lands near Peter's scooter. It attaches itself to Pete's foot when he gets back on his scooter ( ... )

I've heard Eddie Brock is being called "Eddie Brock Jr", like his Ultimate counter part. Additionally, in Ultimate Spidey the Symbiote is called "The Suit" and was a substance made by Peter and Eddie's father (the Parkers and Brocks were family friends) as healing suit. This is then out on hold due to the accident that kills them.

Additionally, I've heard the classic black and white look for the symbiote was made because Peter was thinking about the costume worn by the second Spider-Woman, Julia Carpenter when he received the black blob (note that Julia now uses the identity "Arachne").
