In which the world further conspires to ruin everything the Intrepid Arachnid loves

Look, I don't expect anything like integrity or decency from an outfit like DC comics. I certainly don't expect them to respect their own characters. I know to them it's all just revenue generation. Fine, whatever.

But the thing is, people get emotionally invested in their favorite characters. We're all fans, right? We know this! If our faves ( Read more... )

i have no brain for this, hellblazer, comics, fandom, kill 'em all, geekitude, cranky arachnid is cranky

I'm not a comic book fan per say (I appreciate the history and the stories but I'm not an avid fan), but I am a Star Trek fan so I know where you're coming from. But, IMO, the Start Trek reboot worked out for the best (woo! J.J. Abrams).....

so maybe this is a good thing?

Maybe?

Sorta?

Kinda?

OK, so yeah if I were in your shoes I'd be silently weeping in my soul...but I'll hold out hope that it won't be all bad.

This is not a good thing. Trust me.

BTW: I hated the Star Trek reboot, but respect your right to differ. :)

As you are wiser in these ways, I differ to your most trusted opinion.

May I ask why you dislike the ST reboot? (I ask only because all the Trekkies I know loved it. So, I'd love to hear a differing opinion).

Why I don't like the Star Trek reboot? Hoooboy. It's hard to remember specifics at this point, but there were a lot of inconsistencies in the world-building, the plot didn't hang together, and I was not fond of the characterizations. That last is purely my opinion, of course, but the plot-holes and world-holes really ticked me off.

People say, "Well, it's just based on a goofy old show, what do you expect?" I say I expect BETTER, otherwise why reboot? Also, the old Trek eps were written and produced for a weekly low budget TV show yet still took itself more seriously than this movie which had vast investments of time, talent and money, but winked at the audience over its own cleverness.

I'd have to go back and see the movie again to give you specifics, but my opinion is that they didn't make this movie out of respect, love or homage. It was pure financial exploitation.

OK now I'm worried about one tiny thing Constantine wise... will they expect us to just go along with an attempt to make everyones favourite House style snark loving Bisexual into a drunken womaniser?

As for Apollo and Midnighter, they wouldn't dare would they? suddenly remembering Wonder Woman and worrying.
