Y'all can quibble about it or split hairs as much as you like, but in my opinion, the boy is promiscuous, and that's absolutely fine with me.
I like your answer! My own would be, I think, that he has been a slut and may become a slut again, but hasn't been one in Torchwood. And one can think of that as rather a pity.
he's less promiscuous in Torchwood because he's Teh Angst-boy and pining for the Doctor
Yes, exactly.
Thanks for the rec of lower_case_me. Though I hesitate to approach Gwen/Owen... you're sure about this?
LOL! Most of her stuff is Jack/Ianto, at least by reference if not overtly. As for "Four Ways", which is (I believe) her sole foray into other combinations and pairings, I give you three words: Alien Sex Pheromones. *snicker* Utterly painless, so don't fear!
As for Jack.... *sigh*. You are so right. Our poor Jack. To paraphrase the Red Queen, "Jack yesterday and Jack tomorrow, but never Jack today." I hope when he sees the new Doctor, they shag into next week. Literally! Hee!
grins. I think he is a slut too, and I don't think that's a bad thing at all. He likes sex, and he likes to have a lot of it. So what? Sex is one of the good things in life. I think some people who decry "slut" as a bad thing might be a lot more slutty themselves if they could find people to slut around with. And opportunity.
The best thing about Jack is that he's not a "taker". He's a "giver". It isn't as though he goes around using people for sex (I use the term "people" loosely, to mean sentient beings over the age of consent. Hee!). He just wants to spread the fun around. Do you know him from Doctor Who or just Torchwood? Because in "The Doctor Dances" he talks about escaping from an execution by screwing both his executioners, but he calls them a lovely couple and says they kept in touch. So it wasn't ... sordid, you know what I mean? He doesn't use his body or the bodies of others: he *enjoys* them, and he wants them to enjoy him.
See that ficus tree over there? If it were capable of giving informed consent, Jack would shag it. And the ficus would *love* it, and they'd exchange holiday cards every year and the ficus would include little snapshots of its cuttings. That's the kinda guy Jack is. I adore him.
Hmmm. Jack/ficus porn. I can see the Christmas card now. They'd have to be printed on some kind of paper that doesn't involve wood pulp though, 'cause that would be sinister.
I know him from both WHO and TW, and I get what you mean. I also think there is an awful lot of Mr.Barrowman in Jack - he's said so many times himself - and if you haven't lived under the proverbial internet rock it seems quite clear that the only difference between JH and his portrayer is that JB likes his fun with men only.
Unlike some people who get around sexually Jack gives of the vibe of a sexual predator - as you say - he's very sweet natured about it all. Like somebody in the original discussion thread was saying, like the classic hippie ideal of free love.
*blushes, or would, if I was the blushing type* Thanks. Praise means more from someone whose own writing I adore. I'm glad you liked Bella Ciao- it's probably my favourite.
And slut!Jack is the best Jack there is. It's rare to find a portrayal of a futuristic society that acknowledges the fact that societal and sexual attitudes evolve along with tech and expansion and so on.
How much do I love that scene? Both the Jack naked aspect, and the where-his-gun-lives aspect. And the right-clicking-and-saving-it aspect, too. :-)
Jack has been too damn busy to be a proper slut in TW. Monsters, cannibals, his staff shooting each other... That needs to stop. A nice vacation on the Tardis might be just what he needs, so he can come back all fresh and playful.
Ooh, I've been enjoying lower_case_me's "Four Ways" to bits, can't WAIT to see the other two parts. And I see she has a LOT of stuff I haven't read yet - how did that happen? Yay for many happy hours of reading.

Hee. What, they get stolen out of Owen's bathroom cupboard?
"Jack yesterday and Jack tomorrow, but never Jack today."
Oooh so sadly true.

Oh so very true. They both need it.
