I don't care how hot a piece of fanfiction is supposed to be if the author doesn't have a grasp of spelling and grammar*. I just tried to read a piece of fanfic that was recc'ed as being "panty-soaking hot", but the technical aspects of it were so horrid (runon sentences, lack of punctuation, bad spelling) that I couldn't get past the third

I don't want people to think that I'm discouraging writers who are just starting out from posting. But I do have advice for them: GET A BETA. A good one, a real one, not just your best friend who'll say "ooh, that's so cool!"
