The reality of animal shelters

Jan 07, 2007 10:59

Until I watched this, I had no idea how bad it really was. In my naieve mind, I always pictured that the mean or feral or older animals were the ones to go. I had no idea so many once-loved animals met their end this way. Both are pretty graphic, but very important. Everyone should see these.

That is one of the most emotional things I have watched in a long time. It is hard to understand the exact number of these animals that this happens to. Seeing all of those bodies laying out at the end of the first movie and knowing that what was shown there is only a small percentage of the whole, is a real eye-opener. You just don't think about this kind of stuff in your day to day life.

Thank you for sharing this honey.

I got 3/4 the way through the first one and that was enough for me. I see animals like people. Actually I like animals more than I like people.
I used to work for a no-kill animal shelter, and I loved it. I couldn't imagine working in a kill shelter. It's sad.

This is why it's vital that we have serious and enforced spay/neuter laws, and support no-kill shelter systems. The best protection against this problem is to limit the number of new kittens and puppies in the world, and that means people need to get their pets FIXED unless they're dedicated breeders ( ... )

Our animals have always been fixed, from the time that they were little. (Well, we don't know when Pooka was spayed, just that she is...) I'm glad that the shelters around here fix the animals and put it into the adoption fee. (And it's probably good that the fee (at least for the ARL) is reasonably high, it cuts down on people buying animals on a whim.)

I don't see why everyone doesn't get their animal spayed. There are places that do it for reduced price, and it usually makes them better pets.
