[future!scanlations] Future Postings

Jun 08, 2013 16:56

Now that I've gotten a chance to finish up my only ongoing, it opens up the door for a good chance to have a discussion on future scans post-mess. SO!

My goals in scanlating remain as thus:

(1) Sharing the pretty

(2) Providing an easily consumable format of fangirling to reel more fangirls into some, decidedly niche, otome fandoms - manga is ( Read more... )

(5) Adding a watermark: I support this idea. Some group I know use it. But if you keep your post f-locked then it's not necessary ( ... )

(1) Was mostly leaning towards doing a group comm to route people way from my journal. 'Cause I really hadn't intended to draw big attention to my stuff. (Partially because I am just learning.) And the attention thing also feeds into why I've avoided manga aggregators. And getting a lot of friend requests on a journal that I do, every once in a while, post something more private on, just doesn't sit comfortably with me ( ... )

Re-read (1)and "every once in a while, post something more private on, just doesn't sit comfortably with me."
Now I understand, in this case indeed a group comm'll be convenient. And with member only then LJ is more safe than tumblr and people will feel more responsibility :D
Then (3) is a good idea :D
By the way your soda list is interesting :D

Group comm is looking like the way to go at this point. But I'd definitely bump all the people on my F-List over automatically so you guys can all have first dibs.

(3) I'm thinking that I might open the comm itself up for new members for a couple days before turning over to the invitation only bit? Just because I know I suddenly have a bunch of people who were supportive over on tumblr and I'd like to give them a chance to get in on things before setting up the full restrictions.

I had so much fun drinking down the soda list~ The bad thing is I found flavors I really like that I'm going to have to special order to get again XD

I think making a private group comm would be the best option to keep your scanlations limited to the people who respect the wishes of the scanlator's. And at the same time not overwhelm your personal livejournal.

Making the file a pdf and adding a watermark are also good additional security measures. A great example of a scanlation group providing releases as pdf files is Omari's Sister.

Private is the way to go at this point and YES! Omari's Sister is where I got the pdf idea from~ They're one of my favorite groups. ^.^ (I just wish I could typeset half as well as how pretty their releases are typeset... Ah well, practice practice...)

Omari's Sister is also one of my favorite scanlation groups too, since they picked great one-shots and series to scanlate. But they have more than one person doing the translation, cleaning, editing, proofreading, etc., while you're a one-woman scanlator! So don't be hard on yourself. ^_^
