Alice sighed, snuggling down further into her pillow, and tried to overlook the fact that it was ridiculously comfortable considering that moments ago it had been a rose bush.
“I can change it back it you don't like it.” Nightmare's voice drifted down towards her, softly teasing.
“Please don't.” She gave a tiny yawn and stretched. More asleep than awake, she treated the floating incubus to a small, sleepy smile. “It gives me a big enough headache to wonder how I can be tired if I'm already asleep. It'll only give me a bigger headache to wonder how you can change things around the way you do.”
“It's a dream.” He gave a shrug, grin widening slowly. “Anything that can be imagined can be done. Surely, you've gotten used to that much by now?”
“Maybe.” She made a faint sound of agreement. “Just a little bit.”
Still, seeing something appear out of thin air and seeing something be turned into something else were two entirely different issues. And, it didn't change the fact that she had half-expected to be pricked by her pillow the moment she lay her head down.
Nightmare chuckled. Lowering himself closer to where she was laying on the grass, he reached down to brush a strand of hair out of her face in a soothing gesture.
“A valid concern, but an unnecessary one. Sleep.” He encouraged, his fingers touched her cheek lightly. “So long as you're in my dreams there's nothing for you to be worried about.”
“I'll have to wake up eventually.” She reminded him, a second yawn escaping. Her eyes fluttered closed as her breathing slowly began to even out.
She'd have to wake up from both dreams eventually. This one. And that one as well.
“But, not yet.” There was a gentle press of lips to her forehead, tucking her in for what was liable to be a third, entirely new set of dreams. Nightmare smiled softly against her skin. “For now, you can stay and sleep a little while longer.”
