Okita stared at the cheerfully wrapped bento on his desk with the same horrified fascination one might regard a bomb just before it went off.
“Just take it.” Kagura slammed her hand on the desktop with a growl. “I didn't poison it or anything, this time.”
“You'd hardly need to.” He retorted blandly. “Your cooking is poisonous enough as is. Sensei was sick for a week after he tasted your Home Ec. project.”
“He was just milking it!” She had the decency to look embarrassed at least, cheeks flushing delicately. “This one is good!”
“...Right.”
“Well fine then! I'll just eat it myself!” Her face now entirely red, Kagura moved to snatch the lunch back. “I was just trying to thank you for lending me those notes. This is the last time I'll do anything nice for you, stupid jerk.”
A hand slapped down atop the bento.
“I didn't say I wasn't going to eat it, moron. I was only double-checking that it was safe for human consumption.” Yanking apart the handkerchief ties, Okita eyed her critically. “Besides, you'll just get fat if you pork out on two lunches.”

“Jerk.”
“Moron”
“Idiot.”
“Enough!” Ginpachi-sensei called out over the noise of Kagura and Okita's escalating bickering and pinned the pair in place with a deadpan look.“I've had it with your arguing. Now, I want each of you to say something nice about the other and shut up.”
As though on cue, they both began to whine.
“Something nice or detentions for both of you!” Gin insisted, tapping a ruler on his desk. “Don't make me come over there.”
Sensei,” Okita raised his hand. “Can I take the detention inst-”
“No.”
Okita slumped.
“Fine, I'll go.” Kagura eyed her companion warily as their peers fell into an eager hush around them. Taking a deep breath, she addressed her enemy with a saccharine sweet smile. “Okita-kun is very smart... when compared to a rock.”
“And,” Okita retorted. “Kagura-chan is very pretty... when you don't look at her face.”
The class erupted into laughter while Gin sighed. “How about you two just go stand out in the hall or something, then?”
Turning to leave, Okita bumped the girl next to him, whispering smugly. “Told you it'd work”
“Shhh!”
