Alice had fallen asleep on one of the sofa's in the Tower's living areas. Her legs tucked neatly under her and a half finished novel still spread open on her lap as she snored daintily. The sound almost inaudible under the crackle of logs burning in the fireplace. One of her hands clenched determinedly around of the room's decorative chemises, drawn up and tucked loosely around her shoulders to ward off the cold that permeated the Tower, while she slept amid the couch cushions. The same cats that had taken a liking to Nightmare's room vying for the remaining space around her in a jumbled mass of fur and paws.
It was sight all too perfectly, adorable to ignore, and Nightmare paused, smothering a laugh as his good eye crinkled in amusement.
However, tempting though it was to simply slip into her dreams and join her though, a secondary, more problematic thought occurred to the incubus. And, fighting the distinctly warm, fluttering sensation that lurked somewhere beyond the steadfast ticking of his clock, Nightmare settled for picking her up instead - blankets, novel, girl, wayward kitten, and all - and turned to carry her back to his quarters.
Some things were best not left out where Gray could stumble upon them.
