you are into Japan. You have always been into Japan. Korea, to an extent. China? No fucking way on earth. Consequently, your knowledge of China = ZERO. History: zero. Culture: zero. Now, care to explain why exactly are you writing your thesis on emergent Chinese nationalism in Chinese movie making???

Maybe you have subconsciously been drawn to China all the time.

Or maybe it's my professor I adore to hell and back... who also happenedd to tell me that Japan was not interesting anymore and China is the new buzzword and was off to planning my thesis from A to Z before I could blink... I so totally should've stood my ground better in that conversation. Oh well. We shall see, right? :D

Oh, that's a pretty good reason, too ;)

I remember that back in my second semester, when we were doing poetry, my professor (who I really admired) told us that we should all learn a poem by heart and present it in front of the class.

I told him that I really adored Poe's "The Raven", but that I couldn't possibly learn all 18 verses.

He just smiled at me and asked: "Why not?"

And so I did it... it was the longest presentation in class back then, and I still remember most of it until today.

Some professors just know how to challenge you...
