Things I've wondered about.

Kind of random, but I just wondered if anyone had thoughts on this. Why is it that two of the most vocal animal-human characters, Mr. Cat and Duck, end up as animals but two of the least vocal and most animal ones, piano penguin dude and Ms. Goat, end up as humans when the story ends? It seems like such a strange reversal since we think of complex ( Read more... )

stupid thoughts, fandom rambling, princess tutu

Japanese people seem to like cats in general (just look at all the maneki neko out there) and I guess in a sense they're funny creatures. They can be both dignified and funny, and they're very elegant and graceful in their movement, thus why Ikuko Itoh cast the ballet teacher as a neko. :3

The piano playing penguin doesn't get that many cameos so he didn't get to talk, and as for Ms. Goat, maybe it's because she has such a huge crush on Neko-sensei it's rendered her speechless. Or, you can think of it as having to pay two less voice actors/actresses. ^^;;

Those are very practical and realistic ideas! Haha, my mind was going in the exact opposite direction--I was trying to figure out if there was some kind of larger symbolic resonance there that I just was missing, like Drosselmeyer's story makes you forget your humanity or some such. The theories I came up with though weren't fully coherent and in many ways your approach makes much more sense!

H'mmm. Making us think before the holidays, you are....

For Duck, goodness knows why, that's why there's fanfic. For Mr. Cat: he's a cat, he will make sure he is content. Presumably it wasn't long after he changed that he found the future Mrs. Cat and got m-ma-Ma-MA- you know. Once he wasn't busy teaching and all he evidently found time for courting. Maybe, being a cat and therefore chock- full of mystical power (as well as a teacher of young adolescents), he chose to be a cat.

Miss Goatette is a bit more puzzling. I wonder if goats in Japanese culture have the same overtones of humorously base appetites as they do in European- based cultures.

The real puzzle about Piano Penguin Dude to me is: how does a penguin play chords?

How's the RL reading list doing?

I feel like they had to be playing with the goats = desire, if not sexual appetite, trope because of the way Ms. Goat is constantly shown as heads over heels in her pursuit of Mr. Cat.

The Penguin is rather puzzling,but you can tell how not musical I am because that thought never occurred to me! I guess he does it the same way a cat does ballet XD

I'm only about 1/4-1/3 of the way through my lists, but all the meetings I've had with my advisers have gone really well, so it feels like there are signs for hope but I should get complacent yet I suppose.

Nope. Complacency not permitted. Keep readin'.

I suppose I'm not too good at visual puns... "head over heels" indeed! Absolutely accurate!

I just wanted to say that I read "This Pendent Heart" and absolutely LOVED it! I have never really read fan fiction, for the given reason that most I had come across were not good :/ but I had always sought something more for Princess Tutu and your fan fiction has given me a resolution, to me it is THE END, you formed this short story very well, and I thank you for sharing it as well as finishing.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed TPH! Also, PT has one of the best fandoms I've come across--you should not give up on good PT fic--there are lots out there!
