embarrassing confessions?

Ok, so I've only been to one anime convention and that was Anime Boston back when I was a sophomore in college and I've never cosplayed (haha, I keep wanting to say "cross-play" as some sort of weird conflation of "cross dress" and "cosplay" XD). There are a number of reasons for this, but mostly because I am Too Lazy ( Read more... )

I don't cosplay much because I'm also lazy, but also because my mother would kill me (I can't really argue with her that buying costumes that I'll wear once or twice a year is a good way to spend hard earned money).

Ripped!shirt Fakir is surprisingly underrepresented, cosplay wise. The school!uniform Fakir cosplay (which is what I have) tends to be the most popular because I think it's his most recognizable outfit. And you're right about it being really simple, since the only "costume" part of it would be the ripped shirt and a prop or two. The only thing about the blue shirt version is that it'll be harder to do a convincing "cross-play". I tried "cross-playing" for Fanime '08 and not only was time consuming, it was literately painful. >>

I am incredibly lazy and incredibly cheap--it is just not a combination that lends itself to cosplaying DX

Actually, the fact that it's not easily recognizable is part of the reason I want to do it--since I tend to be really shy, I won't feel self-conscious when non-convention people stare at me; they'll just think I'm fashion-sense is questionable.

Actually, as someone who has cross-played, how did you manage it? I mean, I don't think I can do anything about my hips, and the only concession I thought that could be feasible would be perhaps going with a really sturdy and tight sports bra.

Same here. I don't know how my friend juggles her multiple costumes and manages to balance off selling off enough old costumes to buy new ones. It's too much work for me; I'd rather spend the time and effort on my art stuff, though that would be my prejudice speaking.

...and the only concession I thought that could be feasible would be perhaps going with a really sturdy and tight sports bra.

That's exactly what I did, but by the end of the day there was a nasty red rim carved into my chest by the bra, and I couldn't really breath properly throughout the whole day because I couldn't fully expand my lungs didn't help that the strap for the cravat was also really tight around my neck. That's why this year I said "To hell with that!" and didn't do any of the cross play steps, and just went as femme!Fakir.

Urk that does not sound like fun at all.

Haha, well, if I do it, I think femme!Fakir it will be XD (haha, my laziness knows no bounds!)
