manga despair

Before grad school, I could count on my hand the number of manga I had read but somehow, the anxieties of grad school have unleashed my inner manga-reader. These are my shameful confessions.

Until recently, I'd only glanced at a few shoujo manga, and for the most part been turned off right away. Even setting most of the absurd premises aside (and ( Read more... )

I read TCP after my friend bought the series in Chinese. I really liked it too and like you, was kind of disappointed to see that there are hardly any fanfic for it. Guess an artist's earlier work just tends to get less attention.

I know! I can tell from the artwork that TCP is old but it was still shocking to discover it first came out in 1996!

Skip Beat has eaten my entire last year. I'm not at all sorry, though.

LJ actually has several Skip Beat communities. I can't remember them all, but I know two for sure, and I think there's a third. :)

FFnet does have a few good fics. Usually the shorter ones are the better ones since it's harder to stay IC when the story drags out or if the plot goes far enough beyond current manga developments. (That's why I only write oneshots based firmly in events current or past...I don't want to make up my OWN SB world, I just want to add little bits to the real one while I'm waiting for the newest chapters...) So yeah, all the best stuff on FFnet seems to be oneshots...and usually SHORT oneshots. But I have very narrow taste in fan fiction.

I actually discovered Skip Beat! via TCP which I just stumbled on by accident earlier this year. And wow, I was impressed by how drastically *different* the stories were but both are so awesome and wonderful with that same sense of humor.

Skip Beat! is definitely a burgeoning fandom. I feel like I just have to wait a bit for it to really swell in size with lots of delightful fic, but what I was lamenting (reading the post over, I realized that my pronouns are actually pretty ambiguous, so sorry about about that!) was the lack of TCP fandom :(
