It was good to get some background on her at long last.

Man, I want an Emo Beach of Truth for all my canons now. The possibilities, they tempt me so. :(

4. It's awesome that Dumbles is gay, but less awesome that I've seen some people at sites like Mugglenet react by saying that it's ruined the series for them, and it's unnecessary and oh JKR think of the children, and blah blah blah. Dumbledore as a character is absolutely no different than he was before Rowling revealed that. If something as inconsequential as this could ruin the character for them, let alone the series, they've really got issues.

I dunno. I don't agree with 1 and 3, but if it had no impact on the story ... and I mean none since it was apparently absolutely transparent ... it does seem unnecessary. That's not the same as bad, but I don't really get the point of taking the effort if it isn't necessary. I sorta figure that if there was something that she wanted us to know about the character, she should've said it in the books, not casually dropping it in an interview.

I think that a better answer would be that she always thought of him as gay. It gives her opinion on his sexuality was without making it "official". ( ... )

From what I understand, she only brought it up in the interview because she was specifically asked a question about Dumbledore's love life. Lemme look it up again...

Okay, yeah. According to the transcript, the question was, "Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?" and her answer was actually exactly what you mentioned: "My truthful answer to you... I always thought of Dumbledore as gay." After which she got a standing ovation, which obviously encouraged her to elaborate on the statement.

So I do think calling it unnecessary is being unfair to her, because really, all she did was she was give her honest response to a legitimate question. It wasn't like she called a press conference to announce it or anything.

Heh, the onion is always win, though. XD

And yeah, I do watch Colbert, but on far from a regular basis (unfortunately). Exdee @ the Cooper announcement.

I see your point, but when she continued she gave a much more affirmative statement on the matter. I think that she should've emphasized the opinion part of it a bit more, but that's a lot to ask of someone during a surprise turn of events in a press conference. I mean, politicians and talk show hosts routinely make careless statements and they have professional handlers to make sure that they don't.

So did you hear?

Stephen Colbert is running for President!

In the state of South Carolina. He's not planning on entering any other primaries, but he wants to enter on both parties' primary.

Well, she's always been willing to give people background information on a character (or anything else, really) when asked, which happens very often in interviews. And this is the first time she's ever gotten any flak for it, and it seems to me that the only reason is because the idea of a character they admire actually being gay (!!) makes some people uncomfortable. And personally I have very little sympathy for that. But it's a touchy subject for me, so.

Yeah, I heard. D: I just wish he was running for real. I'd vote for a Colbert-Stewart ticket in a heartbeat. XD
