Valentine’s Day: known for passionate love, smoky romance, and to blunt - hot sex. Most people expect Valentine’s Day to fall on one of winter’s rare warm days, where the sun is just beginning to melt the snow. This year, the holiday fell on Saturday. That meant that every student over the age of thirteen was planning to escape to Hogsmeade, to hopefully spend an amazing(and for some, night) with the love of their life.

But February 14, 2023, marked one of the worst snow storms seen in history. A blizzard of snow seemed to surround the castle, and everyone was shivering from the cold winter chill. Most people’s Hogsmeade plans were cancelled, and replaced with dates in the library or a deserted broom cupboard. Not as romantic as Hogsmeade, but just as effective.

For Albus, it made no difference whether it was blizzard or a hot summer’s day. Either way, he was going to spending Valentine’s Day alone. He didn’t want a girlfriend, like everyone else in his dorm. Everyone thought it was because he was antisocial. If Albus was anyone else, they would realize he was gay. But the son of the great Harry Potter couldn’t be gay. What great controversy would that make!

His parents didn’t know, of course. His dad wouldn’t care, but he didn’t mind when Albus was sorted into Slytherin. His mother would be mortified; while she didn’t show it on the outside, Albus could tell that Ginny Potter was embarrassed to have him as a son. Aunt Hermione would whisper with his mother, making nervously glances at her nephew. Uncle Ron would completely disown him now.

Albus hated being the black sheep. With his father’s eyes and hair, everyone expected him to be the exact replica of Harry Potter. The only ones who accepted him for who he were Harry and Scorpius, and even his best friend didn’t know the whole truth.

It was bad enough to be in love with his best friend. Scorpius was the only person in Hogwarts who would speak to Albus. All the Slytherins hated him for being a Potter; all the other Houses hated him for being a Slytherin. Albus loved Scorpius, but Scorpius never would. He had a date with some Slytherin girl today, if that made things any clearer.

Throwing a cloak and scarf on, Albus got up from his bed. He’d be the only person outside on such a cold day. That meant that he could hide from the customary stares he received every day.

Albus walked through the halls mechanically, not bothering to look at the people around him. Pushing the door open, Albus entered the outside world, and made his way to the lake.

A layer of ice floated on the lake, and the snowflakes fell gradually onto it. Albus walked around the perimeter of the lake, taking in the cold air. It was refreshing; it gave him strength. As he neared the end of the trail, he noticed a pale figure shivering in front of him.

“Scorpius,” Albus said, “what are doing out here?”

“Just admiring the wonderful weather,” he sneered.

“I thought you had a date with Amanda Nott.”

“Didn’t work out. I like someone else.”

“Really?” Albus asked excitedly. His heart soared; maybe, just maybe, Albus’s love was not unrequited.

“Yeah,” Scorpius said casually. “I just don’t think that they would like me.”

“Who wouldn’t like you?” Albus replied. Scorpius stared curiously at him. Albus could feel the blush creeping up his cheeks, even the cold.

Silence floated between them for a few minutes. Suddenly Scorpius spoke up.

“You know,” Scorpius said, “snowflakes have the most delicious taste in the world.”

Lifting up his lips, he caught a single flake on his lips before his pressed them upon Albus’s.

Scorpius was right. Snowflakes tasted just like angel kisses.
