Author's Notes: This drabble is something that will end up in some future chapter of 'Paint the Silence'.
This was exactly the kind of night that Charlie appreciated, the kind that allowed you to push away the frustrations of the day and simply be yourself, and be happy as just that. An evening around the bonfire with friends. Simple enough, but it just had the sort of right feeling that was good for you.
For the moment, though, he found himself sitting alone, and he observed everyone that was still there. At the beginning of the evening, it had been a large gathering of family and friends. The young and old had already gone home, as it was growing late, but their core group was there. Bill and Fleur were talking quietly to each other, Fleur wrapped under Bill's arm; George, Fred, Andrea, Angelina, and Lee were talking and laughing; Hermione, Oliver, Neville, and Lee were in another clustered group talking amongst themselves. There were some others around, too, but it was this last group that he watched.
Or Hermione, in particular.
The firelight was casting a golden glow on her hair - hair almost as untamable as it was when he'd first met her, when she was just his youngest brother's friend. He liked that about her, liked that she hadn't changed or given into vanity, and he found her basically wild hair quite beautiful. Her smile, too, was beautiful. It captivated him more than he was ready to admit yet.
Something Bill told him earlier that evening stuck in his brain, rolling around as he studied her. Bill had said that he'd known Fleur was the woman for him, even though his rational thoughts had told him to wait it out, to make sure before he committed. Bill said George had told him almost the same thing, that their father had felt that way about their mother, and Charlie wondered if Bill had mentioned this to open Charlie's eyes to what was in front of him.
Maybe Hermione was the one. He certainly wouldn't mind. He grinned to himself, and then went over to join Katie, Alicia, and Stanley, as they were sitting by the butterbeer and snacks. He looked over his shoulder though, and saw Hermione watching him. She flashed him a smile, and then went back to her group's conversation. Charlie's heart fluttered a little, and he rolled his eyes at himself. Internal butterflies at his age felt so strange, but he liked it.
