Name: Anna
Age: 16. I’ll be 17 in March.
Location: Brooklyn, NY (like Libba Bray XD!)
Are you open to cross-gender votes? Sure.
Would you be open to being voted as characters who are not in your age range? Would you prefer to be voted as a character who is within your age range?
1. What are your three defining positive traits? Explain how you exhibit each trait in everyday life.
1. I’m friendly: I always try to be nice to everyone, and cheer them up if they’re not feeling good.
2. I have a sense of humor: I love to laugh and I’m always looking for the humor in a situation. I’m not too good at it, but I like to make people laugh.
3. I’m passionate: I stand up for what I believe in and I won’t let anyone talk me out of my beliefs, unless it’s factual and they actually prove me wrong XD;
2. What are your three defining negative traits? Explain how you exhibit each trait in everyday life.
1. I’m selfish: I try to be selfless, but I fail sometimes, especially when I’m upset. Sometimes if something is really bothering me, I’ll do whatever it takes to fix it, even if it could hurt someone a little (emotionally XD; ).
2. I’m stubborn: It is really hard to change my mind once it’s made up.
3. I have jealousy issues: I like to keep my best friend to myself…
3. If you were studying in Spence, which would be your favorite place? (By the lake, garden, church, caves, etc.) Why? Probably the garden because I feel so at peace in gardens in general, because that beautiful side of nature always makes me feel like I’m in a fantasy world or something.
4. Would you have stolen the wine from the church in order to be in Felicity's group? Why or why not? If you weren't part of their crowd, what kind of clique would you be in, if any? Why? Probably not. I would not agree to going into the church because I would have suspected that they were going to lock me in. Also, I would not want to risk getting into such huge trouble.
I would probably not be in any clique because I’m not really too fond of groups. Rather, I’d make friends with one girl and just “hang out” with her.
5. If the Door of Light were to appear in front of you and you were to go into the realms, what would you choose to do in them? What would they be like for you? Well, I’d probably want to see what I would look like if I had more “perfect” features and if I could sing better… Also, I’d want to look around…
6. Do you think the power of the realms should be shared by the members of the Order? Why or why not? I think it depends… If everyone shared the power, there’d be no struggle over it, which could mean that there would never have been any problems like Circe. Then again, there are some people that power cannot be trusted with, so I don’t really know what to say… If the people that really deserve the power because they can control themselves are the ones that have it, I think it should stay that way.
7. If you were a woman living in the Victorian Era, what do you think your life would have been like based on how it is now, your ambitions, and place in society? I am somewhat of a product of my times, and yet I feel that I would still be as ambitious and passionate as I am now if I had been born in any other era. I’d probably want to do something women don’t usually do, like be a doctor or someone else that helps people. I’d probably be just as feministic as I am now as well…
8. If you were granted power by the realms and could use it inside and outside of the realms, what would you choose to do with it? Hmm… I’d probably help people, like fix illnesses and etc… And I’d make myself sing better and read faster (random x.x; )…stuff like that.
9. What is your favorite scene (A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels combined)? Why? Hmm…I love the whole scene in the caves from the first book when all four girls are reading the diary (for the first time, I think…). I love it because they became closer because of it, and also it was quite and interesting scene to read… That was the first time I realized that Gemma/Kartik was canon because she thought of him when they found that drawing by Sarah, and then Felicity was kind of losing it (what with licking Ann’s cheek and talking about “having many men”) and etc… Also, I think it was in that scene where Gemma almost took them with her into the Realms for the first time, right? Yeah, it was pretty event-full.
10. What is your favorite quote from the books? Why? Wow, I can’t even begin to think of an answer to that. There are lots of quotes that are so insightful, but if I had to pick one, I think it might be what Ms. Moore said about good vs. evil (was that it?) in the second book when she and the girls were looking at paintings… I don’t remember exactly what she said, but I think it was about how there is no real good or evil…gah, I don’t remember anything except that it sounded very true to me…I guess that’s not very helpful xD;;
11. Pick one character among Gemma, Felicity, Ann, and Pippa. Tell us what she (the character you chose) could have done differently. (We are sure you did not agree with their every action.) It’s hard to choose one because there are one or two small things I’d like to change about all four… But if I had to choose one, it’d be Gemma’s sudden and fleeting attraction to Simon Middleton. I don’t know about you guys, but his getting her and her friends to drink and then dragging her off to be alone struck me as akin to date rape =/;; I mean, he knew she was drunk and had no control over her actions, so… And even after that, she still like him for a while. If I could, I’d just delete their whole little non-fling.
12. Which A Great and Terrible Beauty/Rebel Angels older character would you consider as a good role model? Why? Virginia Doyle, because she's a good mother, and that's unfortunately not as common as it should be. She loves her family and tries hard to protect it, and though she's made mistakes in the past, she's grown past them and doesn't dwell on what she can never go back and change.
13. Sort these words in order of appeal to you: beauty - glory - security - power - wealth - self-fulfillment - freedom. Explain your answer.
Self-fulfillment first because it’s the only way to ever be truly happy.
Security then because no one can be happy and insecure at the same time for very long.
Freedom because I’d suffocate without it.
Glory because I’ve always wanted a little.
Power because I could do anything with it
Wealth because it can lead to power.
Beauty because it is a nice quality to have, but it is last because it’s in the eye of the beholder and thus subjective.
14. If possible, please post one or more pictures of yourself here. This is not mandatory, but if you do have pictures, you're encouraged to post them.
