Recipe

I just had such a nice meal that I think I'll try to share it in recipe format, though I don't usually use them. It's very simple but the flavors are quite rich; it's a trifecta of delicious veggies with hearty brown rice. Great comfort food. It's so tasty that an omnivore like me doesn't even remember (or care) that there's no meat. The mix of ( Read more... )

Regarding Perseid - there should still be some of the meteor shower visible after midnight tonight. A bunch of us were going to go out to somewhere a little remote to see it last night, but the weather made this futile. Tonight's clear, though, so it should be possible. If you or anyone you know have any interest in going somewhere and seeing it in the next few hours, let me know?

Sigh. I would love to, but really should not, for the usual reasons. Stargazing is among the more serious of my weaknesses...

I didn't miss this shower completely, though. I was nervous about walking at night, by myself, around a neighborhood I don't know very well, so I stayed on my front porch last night and positioned myself to block the major light sources. There was a little bit of cloud cover, from my vantage point, but I was able to see a good amount of sky. I saw three meteors (at least...three that I was sure were not tricks of the eye) in a half-hour-ish time span from about 12:30 to a bit past 1:00 this morning. If you're out in better conditions and for a longer period of time, you should see plenty (I envy you!), even if it is off-peak.

Don't forget something to lie on (not sit...your neck will get strained), and something warm to wear just in case. Have fun!

P.S. The Reed Astronomy Club (which is run by me) usually does a watch party for the Leonids. Would you be interested in coming?

That would be fascinating, thank you. (Are alums welcome...?)

We didn't see many meteors this evening, but it was still more than I'd seen before (growing up in Detroit, my night sky was pretty unusable for a long time). Another time, then.

Somehow I missed this post, and now I don't have a kitchen. Damn...
