Hobbit educational system?

So, in Tolkien's wonderful world of the Shire... I have not noticed much said about how young hobbits are educated! I reckon it varies based on social class... what is everyone else's thought on that matter?

hobbits, lotr

I'm sure it was home-schooling that predominated... especiall those in the upper class. Frodo was home-schooled by Bilbo, was he not? And then Sam, being of the lower classes, didn't get an education because he was a working class fellow...
I should look in Tolkien's letters if he said anything about that. Good question~

Homeschooling, I'd assume. Though I think you're MUCH better versed in the more obscure Tolkien stuff than I am, so that might be completely off. It seems...so weird that he wouldn't mention that, though, give the painstaking detail in just about everything else.

The information magically appeared in their minds! JK lol...I could imagine homeschooling but i can imagine a school house with hobbits of all different ages being taught together, like old frontier schools....

Many authors leave out this information...i remember reading an editorial at mugglenet about how Hogwarts students are unhygenic (sp?)...harry never took a shower or went to the bathroom or washed his hands...and they showed proof!

In both cases, I don't feel that it is that important to the plot what their education or hygene (GOD I CAN"T SPELL) is/was.
