I live in a very farm-country area on Long Island's East End; snow has a proclivity to drift out here. Fortunately, it was the southern side of all the buildings this time

I had to climb out the only first-floor window not completely obscured by snow- the kitchen- in order to dig out the front door so we could escape the house

Wow. We had snow like that when I was a child (the 1960s) in eastern Pennsylvania, and we dug forts and tunnels.
