Joanne stormed through the doors of the café and sat down with huff across the table from Roger. To the rocker she kind of looked like a mad bull.
“If I ask you what’s wrong are you going to hit me?”
She narrowed her eyes at him over her cup of steaming coffee.
“Alright, alright,” Roger held his hands up in surrender. “Didn’t mean to agitate the beast.”
The silence stretched out between them before Joanne suddenly slammed a hand down on the table, startling Roger and several other patrons.
“She always does this! Flirts with everyone and everything! I can’t stand it! I don’t want to date someone who is always cheating on me!” She looked livid.
Roger raised an eyebrow. “What did Maureen do now?”
“She talked me into going to some club last night and all she did all night was flirt with the bartender.” She crossed her arms angrily and slumped in her chair.
Roger smiled a little and looked down at his hands.
“What?” the lawyer snapped.
“Nothing. I didn’t say anything.”
“You know something. Tell me.”
“I don’t know anything. Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Roger. Davis.”
“Fine, fine. Do you know you can be very intimidating?”
“Roger, I’m a lawyer.”
“Good point.” He took a drink of his coffee looked at the ceiling. “You know she just flirts to get a rise out of you. She’s not actually cheating on you.”
Joanne looked over at Roger startled. “How do you know?”
“I can just tell. I could always tell, ever since I met her in high school. She acts different with you. Different than when she was with Mark. She’s not cheating on you.”
“Well why couldn’t she just tell me? Why make me go through all this grief, when she’s not actually doing anything?” Joanne let out an exasperated sigh.
Roger snickered a little. “Probably because it’s pretty funny when you’re jealous.”
“Shut up.” Joanne rolled her eyes, but smiled a little behind her coffee cup.
