Coloured Tomorrow
Nino/Sho | G, 1227 words
For bubbly, my love, as a request here (which is still open for anyone who wants! I'm being slow anyway haha). Inspired completely by a delusional conversation with honeyporridge, teehee ♥.

Nino's not getting enough sleep. He's known it for a while now, but it only finally kicks in just before they go on tour for the summer. He can barely keep his eyes open at the best of times, and the best of times are few and far between. It's hot and sticky at this time of year, and through rehearsals he can feel his movements are dragging, but he does his best not to let it show. At least no one has mentioned it yet, so he thinks maybe he's in luck.

But given a five minute break, he falls asleep on the couch despite his efforts, hand over his eyes and shirt pulled up to expose his stomach to the cool air from the air-con. He's not asleep long before Sho quietly shuffles into the room, tapping him gently on the shoulder, "Nino, we have to go." Nino peers over his hand, vision blurry from sleep, and they stare at each other in silence for only a few seconds, but to Nino it stretches on forever.

He lets Sho give him a hand up, clinging to him as he tries to wake himself up. "If we don't hurry up..." Sho is saying reluctantly and trailing off, but Nino understands. He just needs a second. Sho holds him there a moment longer before Nino finally pulls away and straightens up. He runs a hand through his hair, damp with sweat from rehearsals and just the weather itself, and nods at Sho, "Okay."

"Where did you disappear to?" Aiba asks as soon as they return, looking between the both of them for any answer, because for once he can't even guess. Ohno puts a bottle to his lips as his eyes travel leftwards to greet them.

"We thought we'd go find Jun-chan a boyfriend; he's getting to that age," Nino says winking and patting Jun on the shoulder. He sneaks a glance at Sho who is smiling softy back at him, and Nino knows he won't say anything. Nino returns the smile, but only for a fraction of a second before pulling a face, complete with crossed eyes and an outwardly poking tongue.

On stage for their first live of the tour, Nino can see the same glint in everyone's eye. It's made up of pride and love and maybe a little bit of nerves. It's in Jun's as he sings and Ohno's as he dances and Aiba's as he talks, and even Sho's. Sho's when he's looking straight back at Nino.

Their eyes catch and Nino wriggles his eyebrows, dancing over to Sho and then pulling him into a tight hug. It lasts a little longer than the usual mid-concert hug, but they still manage to separate in time for both of them to have the microphones back up to their mouths to sing again. Nino doesn't leave Sho's side for that song or the next. He sings loudly and terribly while Sho tries not to laugh, and eventually the rest of Arashi make their way over to join them and attempt some kind of musical cohesion.

Nino nearly has to peal his arm away from Sho's for the next song. Jun has a hand on the small of his back and Nino smiles at him, yes yes I'll stick to what we've practiced.

Sho is in the shower first thing when they get back to their hotel room, while Nino sprawls out on his bed, staring at the ceiling, still seeing thousands of people's faces and still hearing their screaming and singing. His head is spinning. At this rate he'll fall asleep like this, so he gets up and lets himself into the bathroom and the shower, while Sho squeaks indignantly. "I'm tired," Nino tells him, and he guesses Sho gets it so neither of them say another word.

Of the two of them, Nino is out first and as he dries his hair hastily, he can feel Sho's eyes on him, but he can't pinpoint the expression.

Nino slips into his bed, refreshed yet exhausted. The sheets are cold and soothing on his skin -- skin that is still warm from running around for three hours. He balls himself up on the side of the bed and closes his eyes. Only when he feels the mattress dip beside him does he move again. He keeps his eyes shut and rolls over, wrapping himself around Sho. Sho is clean and soft and welcoming, so Nino twists a leg around Sho's and hooks a few fingers under the waistband of Sho's boxers and falls asleep.

When he wakes up the next morning, Nino limbs are still entwined with Sho's. He tries to open his eyes, but the early morning summer sun is streaming in through the window at just the wrong angle, so he slides off Sho and ducks under the covers. Below, he can make out Sho's figure beside him, and every little sound of every little shift or movement is amplified tenfold. He opts for a few more minutes of distorted sound to blissfully ignore reality before he pops his head back out again. Sho is looking at him now, hair all scruffy, and cheeks pressed pink with intricate markings from the pillow.

"Cool," says Nino groggily, trailing his fingers lightly over the patterns.

Sho swats his hand away playfully, "That tickles!"

In his half-concious daze, Nino doesn't quite have the energy to pull his facial muscles into a smile, but that doesn't stop him trying anyway.

There's a thought running around Nino's head for the rest of that day: he wouldn't mind waking up to Sho every morning. It doesn't completely surprise him.

They sit in the green room, mostly in silence, Ohno more on his right side than next to it. It's hot but familiar, and Nino doesn't necessarily mind. His eyelids droop in a brief moment of weakness, and then Sho's hand is on his left leg waking him up again. Nino looks over at him, but Sho just pulls his hand away and starts up a conversation with Aiba.

Ohno's head drops onto Nino's shoulder. "I haven't been fishing in a while," he says absently, taking Nino's hand in his and twisting their fingers together.

"It's been busy," Nino replies. "We've been busy." He squeezes Ohno's hand and resists every urge to close his eyes again. "There'll be plenty of time later." He wants to curl up in bed and go to sleep, but that's for later too. Always for later.

When he turns his head back to Sho he's looking right at him. "Ready to go?" Sho asks. Jun is already up, and Aiba is midway.

Nino rubs his eyes. "Sure."

Sho pulls both Nino and Ohno up and gives them his brightest smile. Nino thinks maybe he'll be able to last out the day. He smiles back, Ohno grinning like an idiot at his side.

When they put their hands in together before the concert starts that night, Sho is at Nino's side, eyes shining again, and for a few mad seconds, Nino almost wants to kiss him. Properly. Instead, he presses his lips to Sho's cheek momentarily and turns back to the group again. No one blinks an eye. There's comfort in familiarity. It's not like Nino really wants change anyway.

Only, maybe, well.
