True Fans Don't Want to Do Things Like That

So it does seem that the post (in its multiple locations) I linked to the other day did in fact set off somewhat of a miniwank, and, having endorsed it, I wanted to respond to the wild accusations about its implications as to what a "True Fan" should be like, but I couldn't exactly find the words, so zimshan found them for meThat wasn't enough, though, ( Read more... )

'kay!!

I really need a good Beaver icon. Also, where is your icon from? It's the cutest, and I don't remember when Veronica ever made that face.

I don't know, man! The icon maker said she saved the cap and forgot where it was from. My guess is AEFC, but I'm probably totally wrong.

I love Beaver. He's adorable.

Sorry to hear about the wank. VM has been such a relatively wank-free fandom so far. I just try and enjoy the show-I feel like it's a gift that it is still on the air. I don't love everything about it this year, but I wasn't madly in love with it by episode 4 last year either.

Also, I love the new roundtable discussions at MI. Those are great, just like the rest of the site.

You troublemaker, you. Heh.

I've largely stayed out of the issue because I didn't think any good would've come of me throwing my two cents in. I pretty much agree with everything everyone's said, even the things that contradict, but all these STRONG and ANGRY opinions make me wary. Even when the sentiments are logical and articulate, I naturally have an adverse reaction to someone telling me how to think, or making me feel guilty for expressing any of my opinions that aren't uber-positive and brimming with praise. (I know that's not what you did.) But that's my contrarian nature rearing its ugly head (hence my sn "contrarianfreak"). It's not cool when some fans think their words are worth more than other fans' words.

Sigh, fandom is such a bitch. I feel a great schism on the horizon for us VM fans. It can't be pretty. Which is why I'm backing away, slowly and carefully. Don't want to lose any appendages in the fray.

how I define myself by my fandom, which is a dangerous thing when a show is so close to cancellation, because what if part of my identity gets cancelled?!

Oh, no. I'm the same way, and you just scared the crap out of me.

Note to self: Get a life.
