The Lieutenant of Inishmore, by Martin McDonagh (The Pillowman and In Bruges), is the funniest play about dead cats ever. It's also the only non-musical play I've seen where the entire cast ends up covered in blood. It's like a hilarious Irish version of 100 Bullets. Berkeley Rep, go see it!

Yesterday, my awesome neighbors Beth and Ari knocked on ( Read more... )

Cool story! It's like the anti-axe-murderer story.

Well, if you ever want to see another play that probably requires the stage crew to use mops in the end (though it's more awesomely scary than funny), you can always try Bug.

Man, I loved Inishmore, though, and I think it was terribly overlooked when it was on Broadway. (The History Boys was the big play sensation that year.) Sounds like you had fun!

The one they made a movie out of with Ashley Judd? I heard it was pretty good and creepy.

I haven't seen the movie, but the play was a pretty brilliant exercise in exploring the paranoiac mindset, to the point where people in the theater were scratching themselves because of imaginary bugs, too. I'm probably one of three people who liked that play more than Tracy Letts' next one, which won the Pulitzer. (That's August: Osage County, in case you're interested.)

Did you read the story about the lost kitty whose owners had moved so the shelter workers couldn't find them, until they looked them up on FB? Kitty returned after like, 3 years presumed dead. Yay Facebook!

I like the McDonagh plays I've read, but I haven't gotten to see one performed yet. Clearly I am missing lots of fake blood. I'm not in the Bay Area or I'd totally go see that.

It's nice to be reminded that Facebook can be used for good as well as for stalking and time wasting.

According to the program, they use 12 gallons for each performance.

It is!
