To say I'm a bit gobsmacked right now would be a major understatement! This is just what I love, with a bit thrown that I didn't KNOW I liked. Huh. Bit incoherent.
Really powerful story. I love how it starts off relatively light-hearted, and then gets more dangerous as tme goes on. And Arthur staying with him the whole time, and bringing him back was wonderful. The characterisation was really great, especially in the last bit with Merlin fighting for his humantity. Beautiful fic :)
Wow, thanks for such a lovely review! Seriously, I'm currently trapped in a library, facing an all-nighter on my first essay of the term, and your comment is still making me grin like an idiot.
Hmm, slightly intrigued by that bit you didn't know you liked. As well as your interpretation of the tone - except of course I meant to do that, the first part definitely didn't just turn out like that thanks to insanity. #nervous laughter# So glad you thought the characters were right - I get so paranoid about that, especially seeing as I haven't watched the show in a while...
Didn't mean it to sound bad, just in case it did! I don't usually like Merlin being controlled by his magic, as it were. Or rather, I don't read a lot of it. And, although there's only that small bit where he's taken over by the Emrys-side, I have discovered that I actually quite like it...so, thankyou.
I think it was right at the very beginning, where the birds were first talked about. I don't know why, the image just made me laugh. It was probably a product of my own mind going loopy!
Wow, so glad I opened you up to a bit more of fandom! :D I find those sorts of control stories in general can be very dependent on writing, so I'm flattered you found you liked it!
Oh dear, the birds are a little cracky in this. That first image is based on The Birds (actually all of the bird cameos are, I guess), but I guess Merlin's reaction sort of ruins any big ominous effects. Hell, mine would too.
This was totally gorgeous! I absolutely loved every minute of it. Your characterizations are wonderful and your descriptions were so vivid I really felt like I was there, watching everything unfold. I was so on edge when Merlin was fighting for his humanity back! It was so beautiful the way Arthur fought to bring him back. And their banter! HEE. It's my favourite part of the show and you have it spot on. Thanks for the lovely read. I hope you write more Merlin/Arthur stories sometime. :D Cheers! <3
Thanks so much! I can get a little hung up on descriptions, and characterisations are one of those things I always want to do but am never sure if I've pulled off, so it's so good to know you thought both were good! :D And oh God, that banter. I love it too, hence really wanting to put it in and being so very glad you thought I got it right!
No, thankyou for the lovely review! I have tried Merlin/Arthur before - this is one of the first ones I've been remotely happy with. Hopefully a good sign!
This was wonderful! Arthurs desperation was heartbreaking, as was his refusal to leave him alone. And Merlin going from Emrys to Merlin again was done very smoothly and fluidly. I loved it
Thankyou! I'm glad the transition worked well - awkward alternate personalities are a bit of a bugbear of mine. And I think I should feel a bit guilty about doing that to Arthur...
oh wow...im in some serious awe right now. its like the calm feeling you get after something major has happened in your life, you just cant believe it, and you sit there stupidly in front of your computer, thinking "theres no way something this...whoa...exists in reality" i hope that made sense?
#blushes# Bloody hell, I think that's one of the nicest feedbacks I've ever got! I think I know what you mean - I've had it with many Merlin/Arthur fics in the past - and I'm flattered and more than a little bit shocked that you felt that way about this!
I thought you did a great job showing the increasing tension of what was happening to him. Loved that he chose to be with Arthur rather than so alone. Well done.
