A Weekend of Rift

So thanks to a friend I got to try Rift for a weekend. Since I have a number of gamers on my LJ I thought I'd give my impressions.

I've been MMO-dry for awhile but if I went back to something, it would be Rift. I think they really hit the ball out of the park in terms of game design and the amount of care and attention they pay to the community is unlike anything I've seen since the early days of DAOC, before Mythic shoved its collective head up its own ass and started believing its own propaganda about the Atlantis expansion.

From what I heard on the gamer communities I frequent, the population has only grown since release and we haven't seen the kind of backlash we got with Aion and Warhammer. I think I will probably pick it up if the price drops a little more.

Rift instances so far seem to be a wash compared to WoW. PvP is fun and also seems to be a wash. I hear complaints about balance, but then I don't see how it matters much since you can pretty much cover all bases with four toons.

Endgame I still don't know.

Mainly the mix/match essentially "multi-class" thing is huge for me. There's not only 4 sets of 8 'classes' but every possible combination of three in 8.
