Ficlet: Trolls Ate My Dingo

Mar 13, 2008 16:29

Here is another of my ‘Where did Olaf go?’ ficlets; the third in four days. This one isn’t connected to the other two, Thomas and the Troublesome Troll and Olaf at the TT Races. As usual, it assumes that Willow’s spell to banish Olaf sent him to another fandom instead of to the Land of the Trolls; this time to Terry Pratchett’s ‘Discworld’, ( Read more... )

Wonderful, wonderful. I have to keep re-reading to catch all the references you managed to cram in. What a pity you didn't think of entering this for gen_storyteller''s We're not in Kansas Anymore challenge.

Sequel?

Thank you!

I don't do ficathons any more. I won't commit myself to anything in advance.

There will be a sequel eventually, because there are quite a few jokes that I would have liked to include but couldn't work in, but I'm going to get on with regular stories for a while first.

Nice fake-out on the last line. I'm afraid I missed all of the Ozzy soap references, but it really doesn't matter.

Thank you! There weren't any Aussie soap references really (I don't watch them); only movie references and Oz stereotypes lifted either from 'The Lost Continent' or from my own experiences - I deal with a lot of Aussie customers and my parents and sister emigrated to Australia many years ago and are all Australian citizens.

This is great, but the punchline is just wonderful. Paul Hogan and Pratchett - made of win. But no merry sport with the dingoes?

Thank you! No, no merry sport with the dingoes; when I do the eventual sequel there may be merry sport with some two-legged denizens of FourEcks.

Thank you muchly for the Olaf. You've managed to turn a throwaway character into someone I really enjoy following.

Speaking of throwaway characters, you've GOT TO incorporate Buffy's recent spontaneous gayification into 'Life Resumed.' I stopped reading Season Eight awhile ago and am now convinced I'm not missing a damned thing.

Take care and thanks for more Olaf.

Thank you!

No, there will be no gay-age of the Buffy. That's a 'plot development' (read; 'gratuitous titillation for the 15-year-old boy readers') that would be impossible to fit in. And 'Satsu' might be Japanese for 'Slayer' but it still makes me think only of small orange fruit traditionally eaten at Christmas.
