...Polly wouldn't think the elevator was dumb. Bridge felt a little dumber for thinking Polly might think that.
"Come on up," he called, trying to ignore the nerves that inspired such really ridiculous thoughts. People usually thought Bridge's ideas were ridiculous, but at least they made sense to Bridge. These fears didn't. "Just pull the lever. It's easy."

I found the lever and gave it a pull. I blinked in surprise as the machine pulled me up, but I'd composed myself and smiled as I pulled level with Bridge.
I'd prepared for my date with a shower and a ribbon in my hair. I was wearing my favourite yellow sundress with red belt. Bridge... was looking as nervous as I felt. Which was sweet.
"Hi!" I said, and handed over my gift. "I brought cookies."

Devon had helped him pick out what to wear, and Bridge was especially thankful for that. He wasn't overdressed or underdressed, just dressed in nice jeans and a button-down green shirt. The sleeves were rolled up a touch, just to keep them clean while he fixed dinner. Maybe he'd remember to roll them down.
"You look nice," he said, giving her a once-over free from leers but attentive. "I mean, pretty. You look very pretty. ...Not that you don't look pretty all the time, just especially so today. Tonight. This evening."
