I have a fondness for Winter Solstice. Christmas was usually spent either at home alone growing up, or in some motel or another while my father did his travelling-salesman thing. But Winter Solstice was what my mother celebrated, and I was intensely grateful that there was no buying or selling involved

I guess I don't believe in recreation. What was, was. I can't go backwards, and trying to get back to where I was takes energy away from the present.
I have traditions and friendships and even a few family up here now. But it's not the same...ever forward, I suppose. :)

Also, I have a friend that pointed out to me that I like it when it is dark out... At least I did in college. Guess I should learn to love it as much as when it is light out again.
