With Gods of the Area fast approaching (( January 21)) everyone is still wondering about the fate of Spartacus Season 2.

After a discussion on facebook with a friend and I realized that we would honestly rather wait and see if Andy could return rather than start filming of the second session. However on the other side, as amazing as Andy was, the ( Read more... )

Great point about Xena, and I think it's entirely true that if they go on hiatus many staff and cast may not be available.

But I COMPLETELY LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of a Spartacus Franchise, they could do a separate story about Lucreita, then Naevia, then tons of other things!
Thanks for the comment love, you gave some very good realistic points!

Really well said!

It does seem like the set has a good vibe and people were genuinely glad to have a chance to come back for the prequel. Delays and The Hobbit could mean losing backstage people we might not be able to name but whose work we see on the show.

I too want to see what happens. I want to see Glaber become a major player next season (he's so good at being a hatefully smug bastard) and then near its end Crassus could be introduced to show that in season three Spartacus has to face someone even tougher. Then there's Lucretia's fate, Naevia's rescue, Ilithyia and Ashur getting the punishment they escaped in the finale... Whatever Starz decides, I hope it's something that allows the stories of these characters to continue.

Production delays raise the cost of making any show and I'm sure that Starz doesn't have a lot of extra money so they can just sit around and wait.

Andy is a great actor, no one is denying that but at some point, you just can't wait for someone any longer no matter what the circumstances. Plus with cancer, there is always the possibility of a relapse (which is the reason Andy had to walk away in the first place).

And since Andy gave the go ahead for continuing the series without him in the lead, I think we should respect his decision.

I'll miss Andy, but even though it won't be the same with a different Spartacus I still want to find out what happens to the rest of the great cast of characters. It was really decent of Starz to give Andy a chance to get better, but a longer wait just sounds impossible to me. The cast and crew have to start looking for new jobs if this isn't settled soon. If Andy is ready to act again in a year, half of them might have other commitments and the series would require such an extensive revamp that I don't see it happening.

I think it's recast or end of story, and I've enjoyed this show so much that I hope they'll find a new Spartacus - the casting department has done a great job so far and I'm willing to give them a chance.

I think it's a shot in the dark to try and replace Andy. It was a miracle Starz got such a hit on their hands in the first place, a 'perfect storm' of circumstances and storyline and actors and writers etc. You can't take the central piece out and expect it to go on as it did.

I understand why they're going to replace him, I just think it's pointless. It will fail. I would have rather they left it at the end of Season 1. Give us one perfect season, like Firefly, and then let us mourn that there won't be anymore.

Don't shove some other peg into Andy's spot and pretend it's even remotely the same. I don't have any hard feelings for the people trying to salvage it, but I do think it's all grasping at straws at this point.

I agree with you that it's going to be so hard to find anyone to replace Andy. I think waiting wouldn't be a horrible idea, but as olansamuelle pointed out, if we do that we run the risk of losing alot of staff/cast. I just hope whoever they attempt to replace Andy with is more than just a handsome face and has some serious talent because I know I'll be a little harsher on the show because of it. Thanks for the comment, and OMG I LOVE UR ICON!!!

Are most of the cast and crew from B&S working on GotA? I don't know all that's going to happen, but ideally they could stretch out GotA out for another season and then make a judgement about Spartacus' role after that time has passed to see if Andy was well enough again. The universe they've created has a lot of interesting stories, but health is almost impossible to predict so banking on Andy being better at a certain time would have been a bad move.

I would also be perfectly alright with the focus of B&S shifting to Crixus instead. He might not be the title character, but I <3 him

I hadn't thought about stretching out GotA, but depending on how they end it, that could be a good idea.

That's actually a lot of what I'm hoping for S2. I would hope - not to mention think it smarter, so the new actor isn't just thrust upon the audience - that Crixus and Doctore (and others) would step up to take more major roles so that it's more about the slave rebellion being a group effort.

I'd love to see Crixus be the focus! What a great idea! Thx for the comment!
