Adaptations

I've had a recent epiphany about adaptations, in that, sometimes it's good to change things. I mean changing the adaptation doesn't take away from the original (usually) and it's nice to see alternate takes on the same source. For example I thought I' Robot was a great film despite being alost totally unrelated to the book ( Read more... )

I should look into reading I Robot...now that I know a book exists. XP

I like when the film adaptations of books can be as good or almost as good as the book...despite being wildly different. Hem, I'm not actually sure I've come across this. But I imagine it's a nice experience. I'll get back to you on that...with an example. XP

It's really more a collection of short stories rather than a novel. Jurassic Park and its sequel had a lot of subtle differences. Such as the death of several characters who didn't die in the film...in fact a couple who died in the film survived in the book =P

*thinks* Um the Death Note movies, while mostly similar have wildly different endings. Oh and the new Prince of Persia movie looks pretty cool.

In a way, by being different, an adaptation can potentially be better than the book/ game/ whatever. If it tries to be similar and changes a few things, fans will just compain it wasn't accurate enough.

I really loved the Trigun anime but never got into the manga.

I guess I never really gave it much of a chance, though.

=O *sharp intake of breath and starry eyed smileys* =D Woot trigun!

Yeah, trust me, you're better off not doing so =P. I mean it's...ok. I'm sure it would be good if I KNEW WHAT THE FUCK I WAS LOOKING AT!!! Seriously. Look it up sometime just to see an action scene. It's like "what is going on here." That aside everything's kinda weird. Knives cripples Legato for no reason in particular and he's still in a coffin with one arm (where I'm up to). His psychic powers are explained by him shooting out loads of invisible threads to control people... (no really) and Wolfwood is really a 10 year old who aged really fast due to super-soldier degeneration.

Basically the original was weird and the animé made it awesome =P

"After showing potential in the orphanage in which he is raised, Chapel trains and modifies him, giving him enhanced abilities and the ability to regenerate from heavy injuries using special vials, though he ages much faster than normal"
YA RLY!

The animé is much better with him OWNING the orphanage. Also makes the scenes with him and Milly good and not creepy =P
