I wonder if it's because you have the Premium service? Which is like...so typically Amazon somehow, to make you pay more for books delivered in worse condition.
When I get books from them, they take longer to get here, but they are shrink-wrapped to a piece of cardboard and then packed in those plastic air-puff things and then in a huge box. Plus I'll get three in the same day EACH IN ITS OWN BOX and they'll charge me more for postage than the cost of the books. >.<
I usually get one tiny paperback arriving in a box that looks like it could hold a rocket launcher, but it's in good shape.
Maybe it is because of the premium service. When I used to go for the super saver shipping (yay free shipping, lol), the books would come shrinkwrapped to some cardboard backing.
Maybe they're in such a hurry to get the books out that they just drop them in a box and go. :\ I wish that they would take their time, though. Not only is it a pain the in the ass to have to return books all of the time, but they've probably lost more than I paid for the Prime membership in the first place. I've returned a lot of expensive books (two huge coffee-table books and at least a dozen tpb comic collections, for starters).
Bah. Amazon frustrates me. I'm sticking with In Stock Trades for most of my tpb needs. XD
I don't know. :\ None of mine come shrinkwrapped anymore, but I'm not sure if it's the Lexington depot that is slacking or the fact that they're in such a hurry to get my two-day shipping orders out the door because I have Prime.
I am using this avatar because I think it is glorious. XD
That makes me upset. >:( Not that you're getting great condition books, haha - they should be in great condition - but that mine are only traveling about 250 miles and ending up like trash, but yours are going thousands of miles and actually packed well enough to withstand that journey. I guess the answer is no more Prime shipping. :P
Have you read The Little Stranger yet? I'm wondering if I should splurge on the hardcover or wait for the paperback.
Oh man, I should have taken a picture of what happened to Fingersmith when Amazon sent it. The spine of the book was scraped down to the pages in a four-inch swath. :(
