WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU COMBINE TELEVISION + THE SIXTIES + A WHOLE CAN OF AWESOME??

....Probably many things. But only two are relevant to my interests:

1. Star Trek.
Today was the 43rd anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek. It aired September 8, 1966 at 8:30 EST on NBC. Like all great sci-fi, it had a shitty budget and barely lasted 3 seasons before being canceled by the network, despite 14 total Emmy nominations. It wasn't ( Read more... )

*facepalm* OMG HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT THAT? Well, since then I mean. lol.

And IDK, for some reason it still doesn't totally count for me because it wasn't in New York. Ever since he got back he's been behaving himself. So far.

It's 2:30 am though so I really have no idea what I'm saying.

It's the best x3

and while I love spock, I always thought bones was the best (easily) and kirk was the most physically attractive

maybe I'm just weird, haha

I know mom loved spock when she watched it as a kid %)

Mad Men is so giffable this season, I love it.

Oh oh, the image of Sally getting locked out of the house right after the cop came? So heartbreaking and brilliant. I also liked the Joan/Peggy moment with the roommate ad, 'cause Joan got to show off her ~street smarts~ and she didn't get to have an accordion this week. Pete is always full of lulz and I love to watch him fail epically. I also enjoyed the scene with Sal and his wife where he's doing the Patio commercial, and her face goes from ^__^ to o__o as he dances because she maybe just realized that OH SHIT you totally married a raging queen.

NO KIRA DOESN'T COUNT. She wasn't a Starfleet officer. And she was on a space station, not a starship. And she was like a Bajoran liason or something.

Don't get me wrong, she's an awesome character, but in my book she doesn't count as a first officer.

I don't really see what the space station issue has to do with it since you did say "Trek series" not "starship." BUT she was given a temporary Starfleet commission as Commander under Captain Sisko, and while still liason served as second in command on Deep Space Nine throughout the series. Boom, roasted~

It would be nice to have a female first officer who counted indisputably in everyone's books, though. (Or any new Trek series at all. *____*)

That is too funny! I happened across this quote yesterday, and I didn't even realize it was a big ST anniversary!

As you know, when Star Trek was canceled after the second season, it was the activism of the fans that revived it for a third season. - George Takei

I didn't know much of this about star trek, thank you :)
