You probably heard about this story in April when it happened. I'm pretty impressed that Out and/or the journalist devoted so much energy to investigating it. As you might imagine, it's pretty complex, and there's a lot here to chew on about ugly-Americanism in general, white entitlement, and that of white gay men specifically. See also: resort

This is one of the reasons I've never been outside of the US -- you know, aside from not having the money necessary for those types of vacations. I have a better grasp of how to defend myself and what my legal rights are here than I would in a place that's alien to me.
