Fred Phelps is dying

 So apparently Fred Phelps is dying. I know there’s definition a temptation to talk about protesting his funeral or dancing on his grave - after all, the man was a pretty loathesome bigot.

Personally, I find myself largely not caring. Phelps, in his venom, was a negligible source of homophobia simply because his tactics were so cartoonishly awful

Because it's JUST ADDING TO THE HATE if you don't assume the best of all the straight people jumping on the band wagon rather than pointing out what a useless, empty thing hating Phelps was and how he's such an easy scapegoat that lets straight people feel good about themselves! WHY DO YOU LIKE HATE?! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?

Yup you have nicely skewered the whole "no true scotsman" fallacy so many play with the Phelps's.

I just boggle at the idea that Phelps is an anti-gay warrior - would that all our enemies were as inept: but he is great camouflage

Ehh, at this point I plan to simply sit back and wait for the plague of locusts. I agree with you, though: he was hateful, but not a major enemy.
